Massive moving sales
--------------------

"Back in Oyster Bay, the Marcuses are merely observers
at their own moving sale, having enlisted a
professional tag sale specialist, Ronnie Wahrburg of
Gold Coast Tag Sales, to set up and price their items,
collect the cash and haggle over dollars with
customers.

"And barter Wahrburg does, simultaneously modeling a
choker necklace for one shopper, praising a collection
of expensive antique ivory figurines to a young couple
and rapidly selling artwork to another.

"Wahrburg meets with potential clients to see if they
have enough items for a sale. If a deal is struck, she
tags the merchandise, staffs the sale with her workers
and collects 25 percent commission of the total sales.
'Almost nothing is sold at the marked price,' says
Wahrburg, who's been in the business for 23 years. 'If
you want a dollar, you have to mark it four.' And just
for the record, 'it doesn't matter what you paid for
it.'"

Clean up: Tag sale tactics

SHAWNA VANNESS

"Moving sales require immense effort, energy and
coordination, says Ronnie Wahrburg, a professional tag
sale coordinator from Long Beach who's been in the
business for 23 years.

"'It's very stressful. It's a very emotional time,'
Wahrburg says....

"Don't play junk police. It only goes in the trash if
it's broken, moldy or dangerous. 'There's nothing that
can't be sold,' Wahrburg says. 'Even if it's only a
dollar, it's better in your pocket than on a garbage
truck.'"
